Sonia Patrinou

Sonia Patrinou has studied Sociology at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens. In 2017, she graduated from the Gender Studies MA program of Utrecht University. Queer Theory and queer research subjects have been part of her main academic interests. Her BA thesis was on Queer Theory, the analysis of the linguistic roots of the term queer, and its usage in the Greek language. During the first block of the Gender Studies MA, she started to develop an interest in Porn Studies and pornography in general, which resulted in her thesis entitled “Pornohealing: Pornography as a healing process for individuals with a history of sexual violence.” She has worked for several refugee and migrant NGOs in Greece, and she has been writing an online LGBTQIA+ dictionary for OLKE, the biggest NGO for gay rights in Greece. As part of her Gender Studies MA program, she interned for Blue Artichoke Films, a feminist porn production based in Amsterdam.
