Grace Khawam
Grace Khawam is a PhD researcher, public health professional and disability activist. She is currently undergoing PhD studies in Disability and Development at Oxford Brookes University, UK. Her aspiration is to challenge the common misconceptions around intellectual disability in Lebanon and to push for a shift in discourse which would focus on the agency and contribution of youth with intellectual disability to society. Grace is also an Associate Fellow in Higher Education Teaching and a Lecturer at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, where she teaches two graduate courses in the Masters in Public Health Program at the Higher Institute of Public Health. Grace has a Doctorate in Pharmacy and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the American University of Beirut. She also has a certificate in Global Mental Health from Harvard University, with a focus on refugee trauma. Grace has worked for more than 12 years in the development and humanitarian fields in Lebanon, essentially within a monitoring & evaluation capacity at local and international non-governmental organizations and research institutes.
