Lucy Wanjiku Mung’ala

Lucy Wanjiku Mung’ala is a Ph.D. candidate in Medical Anthropology, Amsterdam Institute of Social Science Research, University of Amsterdam (UvA). Lucy holds a master’s degree in Gender and Development Studies, University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a Master of Public Health in international health development from Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) & Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands. A queer feminist with over 15 years of work experience combining program design, research, and management in international development, Lucy’s expertise is in community organizing around gender justice, women’s rights, sexual rights, and diversity inclusion. As part of the Becoming Men research group at UvA, her doctoral research focuses on the political and practical configurations of sexual minorities in the 21st century in Kenya. She is interested in studying the emergence of the category ‘sexual minorities’ and how it is (re)imagined, (re)configured, and (re)produced through everyday encounters with the global development apparatus.
