Berivan Kutlay Sarikaya
Berivan Sarıkaya is a PhD Candidate (ABD) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto in Adult Education and Community Development. Berivan’s doctoral dissertation examines gender, state violence, incarceration, memory, trauma and resistance among Kurdish women. She is currently working on Kurdish women's political prisoners' experiences in Diyarbakir Military Prison, their contribution to building the current Kurdish women's movement in Turkey, and their eventual displacement in Europe and North America. Berivan obtained her MA from the Department of Social Work and Intercultural Conflict Management at the University of Applied Sciences Alice Salomon in Berlin. She is a Kurdish human rights activist and a former consultant with national and international organizations, including the UNHCR, IOM, Helsinki Citizen, and Torture Rehabilitation Centre in Turkey and Germany.
